Dialysis Technician

Responsibilities

Context and Background

Medical Emergency Resilience Foundation (MERF) is a non-governmental, independent and non for profit humanitarian organization founded in 2015. MERF is established to provide vital health care and medical relief for vulnerable people in areas of natural disaster, conflict, disease outbreak and health systems collapse.  MERF acts regardless of race, gender, religious or political affiliation.

MERF operations are run by the employees and professionals, all of whom are highly motivated and committed to working flexibly toward the humanitarian aims and objectives of the organization and to the benefit of disadvantaged populations. 

Main Purpose of the Role:

Responsible for direct care of the patient receiving the dialysis treatment. They work in close proximity with the patients and with the doctors and nurses at the center or at the hospital.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • The maintenance of dialysis equipment.
  • The repair of dialysis equipment.
  • The reprocessing of the dialyzer.
  • Prepping the patient for the dialysis treatment process.
  • Sanitizing and cleaning the machine are the dialysis treatment has taken place.
  • Sanitizing and cleaning the surrounding area of the machine before the dialysis treatment can take place so that the patient does not get infected.
  • Monitoring water treatment.
  • Participating in the quality improvement of the center.
  • Monitoring the vascular access of the patient.
  • Taking good and efficient care of the patient.
  • Talking with their patients to understand their overall condition and whether there have been any changes.
  • Educate their patients about their health condition and what their various treatment options are.
  • Checking their patients’ vital signs.
  • Overseeing the entire hemodialysis procedure, and monitoring the patient’s comfort and condition throughout.
  • Ensuring that their patients are correctly taking the medications their doctors have ordered for them.
  • Noting their patients’ response to hemodialysis treatment and medications.
  • Reviewing all the various information regarding the patient, including their lab work and activities, and informing the patient’s doctors about any changes in a condition that needs to be addressed.
  • Assisting their patients in following-up with their transplant center, getting the appropriate questions asked and answered.
  • Coordinating with and supporting their patient’s entire care team, including the primary doctor, dietician, and more, to ensure that the patient receives the absolute best care possible.

Requirements (Person Specification)

·        Trained hemodialysis Technician, qualified from recognized Center

·        Previous experience of NGO work.

·        Good knowledge of quality standards and quality controls related to medical practice.

·        Educated with fluency in English, Urdu, Pashto

·        Strong interpersonal and communication skills

·        Ability to work as part of a team and demonstrate flexibility, motivation, and maturity
