OT Nurse Supervisor

Job Description

Main responsibilities:

Assure quality in the patient care / treatment at OT [Operating Theatre] and Surgical Ward:

Assure proper care and treatment of patients in collaboration with surgeons and Anaesthetist.

Assure proper follow up and treatment of patients in Recovery room and Post-Operative Ward.

Help the surgeon to compose the surgical program.

Make sure infection control rules in accordance to MSF recommendations are implemented.

Assure daily management of OT and Surgical Ward:

Make sure the OT is operational for 24 h a day. Timely make and display rooster of staff. Assure good management of the OT, Post-Operative pharmacy store, specific drugs and medical devices in the OT.

Responsible for weekly drug orders, follow up of consumption, handing over of empty oxygen bottles and inventory of equipment.

Make sure to have always sufficient stock to be able to face any emergencies.

Assure a constant ideal patient flow to the OT by practicing the circuit of dirty, clean and sterile area.

Assure a good management and separation of the waste in OT rooms and Recovery room. Assure proper registration of patients, make weekly statistics and timely handover to supervisor.

Assure quality sterilization according to MSF standards: Responsible for sterilization of instruments, for hygiene and for infection control measures used in the department.

Make sure the sterilization room is provided with all necessary equipment and materials.

Follow up quality of sterilization trough indicators & proper record keeping.

Management of human resources:

Supervise the work of nurses, stretcher-bearers, sterilization technicians, laundry personnel and cleaners.

Make regular evaluations of the staff working in the department.

Train nurses in aseptic technique / nursing procedures.
