Job Description

Summary

Peshawar is the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the biggest city hosting population from all over Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The projected population is estimated to be 4.4 million people including internally displaced people from erstwhile FATA as well. Peshawar is divided into four towns and 97 union councils. Speedy urbanization for social, economic and security reasons has made Peshawar, the biggest urban slum of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These slums are congested and densely populated with informal settlement characterized by substandard housing and dirt. Due to poor socio-economic status the health infrastructure is also not up to the mark particularly the immunization services which is contributing in vaccine preventable diseases. Moreover, under Polio Eradication Initiative (PEI) program, Peshawar has been declared as the high-risk district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Efforts are in progress to eradicate Polio from the region but the gains in PEI program can’t be sustained with weak routine immunization program. In 2019, Peshawar has the highest number of children who are not fully immunized i-e 42,147 (20%).To strengthen the district Peshawar essential immunization, it is a dire need to give more technical and focused support in the form of Field Coordinators who will directly work on the ground in close collaboration with PEI structure, Lady Health Workers (LHWs) and EPI vaccinators to improve the routine EPI coverage in each town of Peshawar including the erstwhile frontier region..

The purpose of this technical support will be to

Support team in clearing the backlog of defaulters and zero dose children under essential immunization.

Support Urban Health Initiative and Integrated Services

Support in establishment of a working model of Reach Every Community approach

Expected Results

Fully immunized children 80%

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Support the district in supportive supervision of the immunization activities. Incumbent will spent more than 80% time in the field.

Support the UC’s in development of RED/REC micro plans and its implementation.

Support Urban Health Initiative and Integrated Services implementation in their respective towns.

Analyse EPI/MCH data and share with the district & provincial team for corrective measures.

Monitor cold chain function in the health facility & for outreach service.

Standardize the use of temperature data loggers in the health facilities.

Participate in the weekly/monthly EPI review meetings.

Submission of weekly/monthly report of EPI activities

Competencies:

Good analytical & problem-solving skills

Good negotiation and communication skills;

Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in diverse cultural background;

Good knowledge of computer applications

Good judgment, initiative, high sense of responsibility·

Good managerial skills in field level implementation

Required Qualification & Experience:

Masters (preferably in social sciences) and at least 2 years of relevant working experience OR Bachelors (preferably in social sciences) and at least 4 years of relevant working experience.

Field experience and knowledge of latest development, evidence-based interventions and approaches to child survival/EPI/immunization will be preferred.
