Database Administrator

WHAT YOULL DO:

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Database Administrator to enhance our team. This pivotal role involves helping maintain our fleet of database installations, as well as coordinating with development teams to implement proper system designs. The majority of our databases are Microsoft SQL Server, with a few minor systems utilizing PostgreSQL.

Manage and maintain SQL Server and Postgres database instances, including installation, configuration, monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.

Design, develop, and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and views to support application development and data analysis needs.

Assist in the design and implementation of a data warehouse, and OLAP and reporting tooling solutions to support business intelligence and analytics initiatives.

Implement and maintain database security protocols and procedures to ensure data integrity and confidentiality.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable and efficient database solutions.

Work closely with development teams to understand requirements and provide scalable, secure, and logical solutions.

Perform regular backups, disaster recovery planning, and ensure data availability and reliability.

Monitor database performance and proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and issues.

Stay up to date with emerging technologies, current trends, and best practices in database administration and data management.

Provide support and guidance to other members of the IT and business teams.

Generate comprehensive documentation for all database-related tasks, including work items in Azure DevOps and wiki pages, ensuring clarity and accessibility for team members.

WHO YOU ARE:

You are a forward-thinking DBA passionate about building scalable, secure, and well-designed database solutions. You excel in problem-solving, possess excellent communication skills, and are adept at working both independently and in a team structure.

Bachelors degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field

Multiple years experience in database design, development, and management

Deep understanding of and proficiency in SQL, with the ability to write complex queries, optimize database performance, and design schemas that support scalable and secure solutions.

Understanding of appropriate database tooling for performance analysis and maintenance tasks.

Intimate understanding of SQL Server architecture and functionality. Intermediate level of proficiency with PostgreSQL.

Experience with cloud services (AWS) and hosted database services.

Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills, capable of working effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

A proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
