Job Description

Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.

Organize, lead, and promote interest in the Visual Arts, including incorporation of Art History into lessons.

Guide students in creative solutions following the Visual Art

curriculum

Attend all Visual Arts Workshop training sessions, participate, and take notes

Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.

Ascertain and interpret group interests, evaluate equipment and facilities, and adapt activities to meet the student’s needs.

Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities

Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants in the activities, and demonstrate use of art materials, tools, and equipment, including cleanup.

Help students observe, discuss, and write about their art

Help plan and set-up all aspects of art shows (as applicable)

Contribute communications and content for website for the arts

Assist with plans for student trips to Museums

Greet new arrivals to activities, introducing them to other

students, explaining rules, and encouraging participation.

Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.

Progressive development of student skills leading to a final project

Promote positive character development in all youth

Most New York Edge Specialists are expected to provide homework support during Academic hour.

Required skills:

Must be knowledgeable and skilled in the Photography and Digital Media

Must have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing youth in the Visual Arts

Must have knowledge of Photography and Digital Media techniques, terminology, and vocabulary

Must be responsible, reliable and punctual!

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
