Job Description

The Technical Specialist in UNIX/Linux to take responsibility for ensuring availability of the client’s UNIX/Linux infrastructure through pro-active and reactive tasks, troubleshooting and administration. The individual will support client’s Unix/Linux Infrastructure the globe remotely and provide timely & Level 3 technical operations day to day support.

Main Duties

Administer, maintain and day to day support of Client’s Unix/Linux systems (HP-UX/RHEL)

Resolve major incidents and technical escalations within agreed SLAs and quality.

Problem Management: Perform root cause analysis for problems and major incidents, provide workarounds to ensure business continuity and prepare RCA reports.

Change Management: Prepare Implementation plan, rollback plan and test plan, risk and impact analysis for critical or complex changes. Review the change plan and documentation prepared by level 2 engineers or peers. Participate in CAB meetings as needed and assist change manager in techno-operations decision process

Availability Management: Analyze availability trends and provide recommendations for improvement and implement or oversee implementation of the recommendations.

Capacity Management: Analysis of capacity usage reports and provide recommendations to customer on capacity requirements.

Server Build & Decommission: Install hardware and software, maintain appropriate service levels, performance tuning and firmware upgrades across multiple hardware platforms.

Software & OS upgrades: Perform system software upgrades including planning / scheduling, testing, coordination, and maintaining integrity of operating system environment.

OS hardening & Security: Harden operating system parameters in line with client / Dimension Data security policy, standards or best practices. Analyze vulnerability reports and provide/implement remediations.

On-Call support: Respond to outages both during normal business hours and after-hours on a need basis.

Documentation, knowledge sharing and training of L1/L2 team members.

Communicating and Coordinating with outside vendors, end users, other department team members, and service providers to resolve issues.

Participation in Service / Continuous Improvement Programs (SIPs / CIPs)

Oversee tasks executed by junior members and stand in for them as needed.

Qualifications

Graduation in Engineering

Requirements

6 – 8 years work experience relevant to stream

Should be expert in HP-UX

Should be good in Linux

Experience in cluster(MCSG Cluster / Redhat Cluster optional)Exposure to Ansible and Python is preferable

Exposure to HP Blade Servers & Itanium is preferable

VMware understanding and exposure,

Scripting experience (Shell, Perl, etc.)

Highly preferred: knowledge of Virtualization technologies like HP VMs, containers, VMware, etc.

Excellent communication skills – verbal and written

Willingness to work in shifts and provide on call support in a 24x7 environment

Ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure

International Client experience is required

Relevant certifications a must (such as RHCP/Advanced level)

Team player and basic leadership skills
